Professor
Dr. Shahed Mahmud is a Professor and Course Coordinator in the Department of Industrial & Production Engineering at RUET. He earned his PhD in Systems Engineering from UNSW, Australia—ranked 19th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2024—and completed his MSc and BSc in IPE at RUET.
His primary research interests center around modeling and optimizing supply chain scheduling, production scheduling, risk modeling, sustainment, and workforce optimization. During his doctoral studies, he achieved publications in prestigious
journals such as Applied Soft Computing, Knowledge-based Systems, and the Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing. External expert recognized his PhD thesis as outstanding and recommended it for the Dean's award. Dr. Mahmud also actively serves as a
reviewer for numerous esteemed journals, including the International Journal of Production Research (IJPR) and Neurocomputing.
Dr. Mahmud has four years of Casual Academic experience at UNSW and a Research Assistant at the Capability Systems Centre, UNSW, contributing to adaptive supply-chain scheduling and workforce-skills optimization. As a key member of the Fab Lab Establishment Team, he made significant contributions to establishing RUET’s World Bank-funded Fab Lab from January 2017 to September 2018. His professional affiliations include the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh; the Australian Society for Operations Research; and the Decision Support and Analytics Research Group at UNSW Canberra.
