World Intellectual Property Day Celebrated at RUET with Various Events

World Intellectual Property Day 2026 was celebrated at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) through various awareness programs. To mark the occasion, a colorful rally was organized on the RUET campus. The rally began at 11 AM on Sunday (April 26) in front of the Administration Building and circled the main roads of the campus.
Key Participants :
Led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, and coordinated by the Director of IQAC, Professor Dr. Imdadul Haque, the program was attended by:
• Professor Dr. Rabiul Islam Sarker, Director of Student Welfare.
• Professor Dr. H. M. Rasel, Director of Planning and Development.
• Professor Dr. Md. Mahmud Sajjad, Additional Director of IQAC.
• Arif Ahmed Chowdhury, Acting Registrar.
• Deans of various faculties, directors, heads of departments, teachers, students, officers, and staff members.
Significance of the Day :
The day was observed to increase public awareness regarding how patents, trademarks, and copyrights impact human life and how the work of creative individuals and scientists contributes to the development of society.
In October 1999, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) decided to observe Intellectual Property Day at the UN General Assembly. The date April 26 was chosen because WIPO was established on that day in 1970 to raise awareness about intellectual property.
Institutional Perspective :
Professor Dr. Imdadul Haque, Director of IQAC at RUET, stated that RUET organizes various events every year on this day to raise awareness among teachers, students, and researchers. The importance of intellectual property is highlighted to promote its protection. RUET has been consistently observing this day in alignment with World Intellectual Property Day.
